The Surfaced series is constructed from variously sized cubic elements, arranged to highlight both voids and volumes. Drawing inspiration from Northern Japan's traditional 'Boro' clothing, which patches together different textiles, Surfaced similarly assembles disparate pieces into a coherent entirety. This development in Ota’s series introduces new techniques and proportions informed by using stone as the medium.
